Cairn Findley

spring

winter shrugs off the cold
wild grasses ruffle
their blades
and willow branches
offer sanctuary

at night
frogs applaud in unison
down by the creek
and the screech owl
intercedes
with its predictable cry

Kaleidoscope of Girlhood

I wore my bikini like a banner
chasing boys who could never catch me

licking popsicles
on the back patio

climbing the fence into
an open field

collecting caterpillars
while crawling on my fingers

languishing under pine trees
and drawing my future in the dirt

humming with crickets
dancing with fireflies
